The BC Sustainable Tourism Collective (BCSTC) is a group of six influential tourism operators with communications support provided by the Tartan Group.
The BCSTC was founded on the vision that travel within B.C. can foster appreciation and stewardship for the natural environment, regions and communities. For this purpose, sustainable tourism is defined as travel that ensures destinations remain unspoiled for future generations through commitment to environmental, social and economic responsibility as it relates to a company, its people, guests, local communities and the environment.
The BCSTC believes that, by supporting each other in a collective goal to become leaders in sustainable tourism, it can build value for its member companies and their guests and it can influence the tourism sector, governments and local communities to identify and implement sustainable best practices.
Since first forming in 2006, the BCSTC has made presentations on the collective to the North American Sustainable Tourism Conference, hosted by The International Ecotourism Society (2007), attend Ecotourism Australia’s annual conference, been an active member of the Province of British Columbia’s Green Tourism Forum, and won the bid to co-host the 2008 North American Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism Conference being held in Vancouver, B.C.
